Of all the snowboards bindings available, strap bindings are the most common. They are cheap and easy for many people to deal with. They are intuitive and resembling of many other situations that require holding two objects together. These bindings are mostly ratchet-type, but there are Velcro stick and peel type of strap bindings. However, when it comes to caring for them, they require more care than metals for instance.
Snow is primarily water; therefore a decision has to be made as to how absorbent the straps have to be. This is related to the material used: For instance, leather is tough and durable to use, but can prove smelly with constant exposure to water. The texture of leather hardens with exposure to water and so does its behavior. This is a big problem. Therefore, leather is not such a good material and is seldom used. Synthetic materials like nylon are preferred.
In conclusion, snowboard bindings made from metals and synthetic materials are good to use. Metal can be wiped clean, with or without disinfectant, whereas strap bindings made from synthetic materials are not very absorbent to water. They are tough and durable and are easy to clean once the need arises. Failure to apply this care may lead to hygiene and health problems.
