Adults and young people with an interest in the thriving hospitality and tourism sector in South West Wales are being urged to attend a free careers and training open evening on Tuesday 20th March.
The Hospitality and Tourism Sector event at Pembrokeshire College aims to provide students from schools and colleges, and adults interested in a career in the hospitality and tourism sector, with the information needed to get ahead in one of Wales? most prosperous employment sectors.
Hospitality and tourism is big business for the local area, with over 15,000 jobs directly linked to the industry which is worth almost ?550million to the local economy.
Building on its already strong presence in areas such as Pembrokeshire, the hospitality and tourism industry is now poised for further growth following the Welsh Government?s announcement that the sector is among a handful of sectors flagged as being of key economic importance to Wales.
To help people to find out more about careers in the hospitality and tourism industry, Careers Wales in association with Pembrokeshire College, is inviting people to attend the Hospitality and Tourism Sector event to get first hand information from a range of local employers about the exciting opportunities in the industry, while also finding out about the training and qualifications that can help you to make your first steps into the industry.
Information will be available from local hotels, food and drink sector, tourist attractions and activity providers, tourist information centres, Gallu Skills Development, Pembrokeshire Tourism and Pembrokeshire College.
Speaking ahead of the evening Jean Brown at Careers Wales said: ?Hospitality and tourism is without doubt a boom sector for the local economy as it attracts in excess of four million visitors to the area each year, with each visitor spending in one way or another in the local area.
?This event will help people who are keen to find out more about the opportunities available in this exciting area of employment and to hear from employers themselves about the skills and qualifications which they view as the most important.?
